The Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge will temporarily prohibit the harvest of all bass species for the 2025 fishing and boating season.

Recent surveys suggest that the fish numbers are not at a sustainable number to promote the growth and health of our bass population in the Lacassine pool.  We ask all anglers to please refrain from harvesting any of the bass species in the Lacassine pool for the 2025 fishing and boating season. Catch and release only.

The harvest restriction is intended to protect the bass species and provide time for the fish to spawn at least once in their lifetime.  We intend to do more research soon to better understand why our fish population is struggling and what we can do to improve the habitat itself.

Thank you for understanding and if you have any questions, please email us at swlrcomplex@fws.gov
