Motorized boating in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is limited to 10 hp or less boat motors. Boats with larger motors must use a trolling motor and keep their larger hp motor out of the water. Motorized boating trails are designated on our Wilderness Canoe Map with solid lines. No motorized craft is allowed on overnight trips into the swamp. Using a motorized craft is a great way to explore deeper into the swamp in one day than paddling alone. This makes it great for getting to wonderful fishing holes like Buzzards Roost from Suwannee Canal and Big Water from the Stephen C. Foster State Park Entrance. Fishing requires a Georgia State Fishing License which can be purchased here. Jon boats are also available for rent from on-site concessionaire Okefenokee Adventures.
