Fishing is permitted in the open water areas of the refuge, with good fishing opportunities for redfish, snook, sea trout, flounder, mangrove snapper, Jack Crevalle and other popular sportfish. Bank and wade fishing is permitted on the lagoon side of Bird's and Pete's Impoundment Trails. Refuge waters are open year-round, except the posted buffer around Pelican Island (proper), which is closed year-round. Manatee slow speed zones are posted along Spratt Creek and in other areas near shorelines and islands. Recreational clamming is open north of Spratt Point, except in the posted aquaculture use zone. Boat launching facilities are available in the city of Sebastia, Wabasso Causeway and Sebastian Inlet State Park. Fishing is prohibited in the interior of impoundments, lakes and ponds.
