Come catch a fish at Rappahannock River Valley NWR. Fishing is available year round at our Hutchinson, Laurel Grove, and Wilna Units. (Cat Point Creek will be open in the near future). State regulations are enforced and use of live minnows for bait and lead sinkers are prohibited. Bass are catch and release at refuge ponds. Please read below for more information about the specific fishing opportunities available at each unit.

Wilna Pond

Fishing is allowed from non-motorized or electric boat access, pier use or the bank in designated locations. Fishing from the catwalk of the dam is restricted. Fish you can expect to catch include, largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, flier, yellow bullhead, and American eel.

Laurel Grove Pond

Fishing is allowed from non-motorized or electric boat access or the bank in designated shoreline locations. There is no fishing pier available. Fish you can expect to catch include, largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, flier, yellow bullhead, and American eel.

Cat Point Creek

Fishing will be confined to pier use and non-motorized or electric boat access only. Fish you can expect to catch include, Crappie, bluegill, perch catfish, blue catfish, croaker, largemouth bass, and white and yellow perch.

Mount Landing Creek (Hutchinson Unit)

Fishing is confined to pier use only. Fish you can expect to catch include, blue catfish, croaker, and white and yellow perch.
