Established in 1937, Sabine NWR consists of 125,000 acres of coastal marsh. Annually this refuge hosts a popular general-access waterfowl hunt on 34,000 acres, most of which must be accessed by boat. Hunters pursue a variety of duck species and have an occasional opportunity to bag a snow goose. Some walk-in areas are available to the willing and able outdoorsman. This general-access waterfowl hunting area is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 4:00 am until 2:00 pm.
