Facility Rules and Policies
To ensure your safety and protect wildlife and habitat, please adhere to the following regulations.
The Refuge is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset. The entrance/exit gate closes automatically and may close up to 1/2 hour prior to sunset to allow visitors adequate time to leave the refuge by sunset. The gate will open automatically as visitors leave the refuge. No entry is allowed once the gate is closed regardless of time of day.
The Refuge is closed to bicycling and off-road vehicles.
Remain in your vehicle when in the bison enclosure. Foot traffic is not allowed except where observation decks are provided.
Use your vehicle as a wildlife viewing blind. Do not approach wildlife.
Roads throughout the refuge are paved. Visitors must observe the posted speed limits of 25 mph or less out of respect for wildlife and other visitors.
Parking is allowed in designated parking areas only.
Overnight parking and camping are not allowed on the Refuge.
Hiking is allowed on designated hiking trails only.
Dogs are allowed on hiking trails if they are on leash.
Searching for and collecting antlers, arrowheads, rocks, and other artifacts is a violation of the Archeological Resources Protection Act and is prohibited.
Collecting plants, berries, or any other natural materials is not permitted.
The Refuge does not provide trash receptacles, so you are responsible for disposing of your own trash. Do not leave anything behind. Pack it in, pack it out.
The use of alcohol is prohibited on the Refuge.
Swimming, public fishing, and hunting are not permitted.
For your safety and the safety of wildlife, hiking or any other forms of foot travel are not allowed in the large animal enclosure.
Drones may not be launched, landed, or flown over Refuge lands.
