The Refuge offers world-class wildlife viewing and photography with opportunities to see and photograph bison, elk, white-tailed deer, turkey, and prairie dogs, as well as a host of small mammals, birds, and reptiles.
Individuals or organizations that bring clients to the Refuge for the purpose of photography and charge a fee or tuition for their service are required to have a Special Use Permit. A Special Use Permit (SUP) is a legal document which allows permit holder, use, rights, or privileges of Fish and Wildlife Service land. This authorization is granted for a specific use of the land for a specific period of time.
- Applicants are encouraged to schedule a pre-application meeting with the Special Use Permit Coordinator.
- Special Use Permit Applications must be submitted 3 months prior to an event.
- Permit Fees must be paid prior to processing the application.
