Overview

Nothocestrum latifolium, a member of the Solanaceae (nightshade) family, is a small tree up to 10 m (33 ft) tall. Trees may have a gnarled trunk, rigid ascending branches, and young parts with yellowish-brown pubescence (short hairs). The thick, pubescent leaves, usually cluster toward the ends of the branches, and are seasonally deciduous (shed leaves annually). Flowers occur in clusters on short spurs and have a greenish-yellow corolla with the corolla tube about twice as long as the calyx. The calyx is 6 to 8 mm (0.2 to 0.3 in) long. Berries are yellowish-orange, succulent, depressed-globose (round), and 4 to 6 mm (0.1 to 0.3 in) in diameter.
