Characteristics
Life Cycle

From late spring to early summer, females release packages, called conglutinates, of parasitic larvae or glochidia that will hopefully come into contact with minnows in the genus Cyprinella which will be able to host the larvae until they reach the juvenile life stage and settle into stream bottoms to begin a sedentary lifestyle.
