Overview

The fat threeridge is a medium-sized freshwater mussel that can grow to be four inches long (10.2 centimeters). This species has a dark brown to black outer shell with seven to nine horizontal ridges and a bluish-white to light purple inner shell. The left valve of the fat threeridge has two equal-sized teeth, and the right valve has a larger and smaller tooth.
