Overview

Cyanea lobata, a member of the Campanulaceae (bellflower) family, is a sparingly-branched shrub, 1.3 to 2.3 m (4.3 to 7.5 ft) tall, smooth or with small projections on the stems and lower leaf surfaces. Leaves are 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20 in) long and 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 in) wide, with 12 to 25 irregular lobes on each side of the leaf. Leaf stems are 7 to 22 mm (0.3 to 0.9 in) long with sparse projections. Flowers, clustered in groups of 5 to 12, are greenish white or purplish with petals fused into a curved tube 6 to 7 cm (2.4 to 2.8 in) long and 5 to 11 mm (0.2 to 0.4 in) wide. Berries are yellow and spherical.
