FWS Focus

Overview

A small ambystomatid salamander. Differs from the other four subspecies of long-toed salamanders by a series of discrete, irregular patches of dull orange or metallic yellow markings on its dorsal side and by greatly reduced dorsal head markings of small scattered dots, which are often absent, anterior to the eyes. The ventral surface is sooty black, with bluish to whitish flecks on the sides.
