Overview
Deparia kaalaana, a fern in the Athyriaceae family, is small and terrestrial. Rhizomes (stems) are decumbent (ground creeping) to erect. Fronds are 15 to 30 cm (0.4 to 12 in) long, sometimes proliferous (bearing plantlets) near the tips of the rachises (blade midrib). Stipes (frond stalk) are straw-colored and sparsely scaly. Blades (frond above the stipe) are oblong-lanceolate. Pinnae (blade division) are 9 to 11 in pairs, oblique, short-stalked, linear to linear-lanceolate, and basal pinnae are smaller. The last segments are oblique and veins are arranged obliquely.
