About Peter Maholland
Peter obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in Conservation Biology, which provided him with experience in a wide variety of ecosystems in the Sierra Nevada mountains and Great Basin deserts, and a graduate degree at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville studying the effects of prescribed fire on upland plant biodiversity and abundance in Northeast Florida. Prior to working for the Service, Peter managed public lands and implemented habitat restoration projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Outside of the Georgia Ecological Services Field Office, he is actively involved with prescribed fire implementation in North Georgia as part of the Interagency Burn Team, and as a member of the Department of Interior’s national Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team.
