Our Scientists are the Bee’s Knees
Did you know there are approximately 4,200 different species of native and non-native bees that may be found on America’s national wildlife refuges across the country? Bees play a vital role in our everyday lives as they critical pollinators of our food crops. As with many pollinators, many bee species are in steep decline. Recently, scientists with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service helped update a national protocol to inventory and monitor bees. Their goal is to provide land managers with simple, inexpensive techniques to monitor bees continuously to evaluate long-term population trends and management impacts.
