All job opportunities with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are posted on www.usajobs.gov the federal government’s official employment site. Positions at Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex, including seasonal firefighter positions will be advertised on that website. You can browse vacancies without creating a profile and apply later if you are interested. Please note: Short-term, non-federal positions, such as seasonal internships, are not listed on USAJOBS. See the Get Involved page for information about internship opportunities.
The following steps will walk you through the process.
Create a USAJOBS Account: In order to apply for a civil service job with the USFWS, you must first create an account on USAJOBS.gov Click on 'create profile’. This takes you to login.gov. Under the sign in button, click ‘create an account’ and follow the prompts to create your account. Click ‘continue’ to use your login.gov account to access USAJOBS.
Already have an account? Just sign in to your existing USAJOBS account and review its accuracy before applying for vacancies.
Complete your Profile: Before you can apply for a job, you will need to complete your profile on USAJOBS. Select ‘Profile' and fill in relevant information.
Build your Resume: After you complete your profile, you will need to build your resume. Click on the ‘Documents’ tab and the + sign to build a new resume. Note: Be sure to create a resume from scratch; do not upload a pre-written resume as formatting issues may occur. You can create up to five resumes in USAJOBS. These resumes can be used to apply for jobs at many other federal agencies.
Search for Jobs: Once you have completed your USAJOBS profile and built your resume, you are ready to apply for job opportunities with us! You can then use the Hiring Paths or other filters to refine your search. Tip: You can even search for jobs when you’re not online by using the “Saved search” function in USAJOBS. Saved searches will automatically search for jobs based on your search criteria and email you when new jobs are available. You can manage your saved search from your account, and you can maintain up to 10 searches at a time.
Submit application: When you find a job you are interested in, be sure to read the vacancy announcement carefully to make sure you meet the eligibility and qualifications required for the position. Then, click the 'Apply' button and attach your USAJOBS resume. You may be asked for additional documents, if they are listed in the job announcement. Follow the steps to attach all required documentation. You’ll then be taken to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s application system to complete the application process.
Provide additional information: Once you have been transferred to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service application system, you will see summary information about the job. Next, you must complete the assessment questionnaire. When you have answered all questions, you will be asked to review your application before submitting. After you submit all the required documents, the online application and a completed questionnaire, you will be re-directed back to USAJOBS. You will receive an acknowledgement email that your submission was successful (this email is not a job offer).
Congratulations! You have now submitted your application. You may return at any time before the announcement closes to update or make changes to your application. You must complete the update and resubmit prior to 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the closing date of the announcement.
Now that your profile and resume are saved, you may use it to apply to other positions.
