Fish hatchery recycles cardboard for youth BB gun shoots
Always pursuing ways to connect youth with nature, Project Leader Kelly Taylor came up with a great idea for “recycling” cardboard used for shipping fish food to Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery. Taylor cut the large sheets of cardboard into smaller size target backstops for the local 4-H BB gun team to use for practice. The team consists of youth ranging from 4th to 9th graders. They meet for practice twice a week and have competitions on Saturdays with the season running from the beginning of January through the end of February each year. Taylor said, “It’s another great way for the hatchery to ongoingly help get youth involved with learning and developing skills for the great outdoors.”
