Wildflower of the Week-Arrow Arum

Arrow arum (Pektandra virginica) is a wetland wildflower that is producing ripe berries right now on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. It only occurs in areas where the soil is saturated. The plants have intermediate shade tolerance. The red berries are consumed by wood ducks. The white flowers bloomed in early June.
