Northern harrier

Photographed on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, the Northern Harrier (Circus hudsonius) diet consists mainly of small birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.  One quirky fact about the harrier is that if it attacks larger food such as ducks, squirrels and rabbits, it sometimes overpowers the creature by drowning it.
