American Elderberry
The American Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) is a shrub or small tree growing up to 12 feet tall are in bloom at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. The fruit is eaten readily by songbirds and small mammals. Human consumption of the berries may require cooking or processing before eating.
