Hunting and Trapping Information and Permits Applications Available for 2023

2023 Early Archery Permits and Information

Dates: September 16 through November 17, 2023

The season dates for the refuge early archery hunt is September 16th through November 17th, 2023. Hunters may download an early archery permit application or pick up at the Refuge Office and send the completed application, signed permit, and a $10 processing fee to the refuge. Office hours are Wednesday-Friday 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The application deadline is 3:30 pm on August 31, 2023.  UPDATE: The drawing will be held on September 1 to account for slower mail delivery.

2023 Deer Gun Hunt Permits and Information  

Dates: November 18, 2023 - November 26, 2023

Hunters may apply to hunt on the refuge during the Wisconsin Nine-Day firearms season (November 18, 2023 - November 26, 2023). Hunters may download an deer gun hunt permit application or pick up at the Refuge Office and send the completed application, signed permit, and a $10 processing fee to the refuge. Office hours are Wednesday-Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Only permitted hunters for the gun hunt will be allowed to hunt. The application deadline is 3:30 pm on September 15, 2023.

2022 Waterfowl Hunt for Persons With Disabilities and Information

Dates: Saturday October 14 – Friday October 20, 2023

This year Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge will offer the opportunity to hunt the River Bottoms tract from Saturday October 14 – Friday October 20, 2023.  This hunt is limited to 14 participants. If more than 14 applications are received by the deadline (October 2, 2023), a random drawing will be held. The application deadline is 3:30 pm on October 2, 2023.

2022-23 Late Archery Permits and Information

Dates: Monday November 27, 2023 - Thursday January 7, 2024. 

The season dates for the refuge late archery hunt are November 27, 2023 through January 7, 2024. Hunters may download an late archery permit application or pick up at the Refuge Office and send the completed application, signed permit, and a $10 processing fee to the refuge. Office hours are Tuesday-Friday 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The application deadline is 3:30 pm on December 14, 2023.

2022-2023 Trapping- Auction and Information

Date: October 5, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.

Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge will offer trapping units for muskrat and beaver during the Wisconsin 2023-2024 trapping season. There are twelve muskrat units and four beaver units available for bid.  Trappers must show a current Wisconsin state trapping license (paper copy) when registering to bid.  Bids will start at $40.00 per unit.  Trappers must be present at the auction to bid.
