Professional fly fisherman, Bill Carman, partnered with Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery once again to host the second Fly Fishing 101 Workshop! Eleven participants joined Bill for a full day of instruction, beginning with introductory modules in the classroom detailing how to read a stream, choose the correct flies, tie knots, and what gear is needed. After the classroom portion of the workshop, the activities moved outside to give the participants practice casting with a fly rod before enjoying lunch provided by the Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc. Following lunch the workshop continued on to the streamside segment of the course. Each participant was able to put their new skills to the test on Hatchery Creek, with suggestions and additional help from Bill. By the end of the day, Hatchery Creek had gained 11 new anglers, and many of the new anglers gained their first catch on a fly rod!
