Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery Hosts Annual Special Needs Fishing Event

Written By

Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery hosted the 2024 Annual Reaching For Rainbows Special Needs Fishing Derbies once again! Though the week held a rainy forecast, students were able to get both fishing days in with perfect weather and lots of trout on the hook! On Wednesday students, staff, and helpers from Cumberland, Wayne, Casey and Metcalfe Counties participated in fishing, food, and fun while students, staff, and helpers from Russell, Adair and Clinton Counties joined on Thursday.

Over 390 participants attended the Reaching For Rainbows Derbies this year, and all those pre-registered received a T-shirt. In addition to a t-shirt, each student received a medallion commemorating the event. For lunch, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies and drinks were served. Countless volunteers helped in various capacities during this 2-day event, including helping kids fish, serving food, manning the Visitor Center, and even being the mascot, Scout the Trout! Events of this nature are only possible because of our dedicated volunteers and sponsors. We would like to give a special thank you to the Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc. who provided the food, t-shirts, medallions, and service during the events!
