On April 9, 2020, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) issued a proposed rule for the 2020–2021 Station-Specific Hunting and Sport Fishing Regulations. The proposed rule can be reviewed on the Federal Register website.
Included in the proposed rule is specific language for the San Diego Bay NWR, which states: (q) San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. (4) Sport fishing. We allow sport fishing from boats and other flotation devices on designated areas of the refuge subject to the following condition: We prohibit shoreline fishing.
Comments specifically related to the proposed rule were accepted when postmarked on or before June 8, 2020. The comment period is now closed.
In support of the proposed rule described above, the USFWS also prepared a draft Fishing Plan, an Environmental Assessment, and a Compatibility Determination to address this use and are provided here.
