Volunteer Position Overview
About This Position
The volunteer will help staff the Fort Niobrara Visitor Center. The volunteer must be aware of and able to describe refuge policies, updates, answer questions about the refuge and surrounding areas, including the recreation program, hiking opportunities, plants, and wildlife. The volunteer will answer the main phone line, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to other employees. Other office duties may include, assisting with data entry, helping in the Sandhills Prairie Refuge Association, photo slide sorting, updating SDS sheets, and ensuring the visitor center is clean and presentable.
The volunteer will also assist with biological and maintenance activities. Duties including but not limited to the replacement of boundary signs, lawn maintenance, trail maintenance, fence maintenance, power washing, painting, trash cleanup, vehicle detailing, turtle fencing and bison management.
The volunteer will be required to have a valid defensive driving certificate, a driver’s license, and sign a FWS Form 3-2267, if operating a vehicle. The volunteer must wear and use all personal protective equipment and review all job hazard analyses before performing work. The volunteer work will be conducted between the hours of 0800-1600.
