Volunteer Position Overview
About This Position
Join the team at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia Beach, Virginia! Site hosts at the Horn Point Kayak/Canoe Launch site are an integral part of Visitor Services operations every April through October. The Horn Point Kayak Site includes a small, soft kayak launch, two small restrooms and small freshwater fishing ponds.
RV hosts maintain and care for this site, which is located on the west side of the Back Bay. Position duties include mowing grass around the parking area and fishing ponds, cleaning the restrooms, interacting with visitors and providing basic information about the wildlife refuge. Hosts may also assist with other projects at the wildlife refuge, such as mowing other areas or assisting with events. This position entails an average of 32 hours of volunteer work per week.
There is one RV pad for hosts, with electricity and non-potable water hookups. Bottled water is provided for drinking and cooking. Due to the nature of the site no full sewer hookup is available. However, a pump to drain into the site's restrooms is provided. No pets are permitted at this location.
