Volunteer Position Overview
About This Position
Tucked along the Atlantic coastline, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge sits on a direct overlay with NASA’s Kennedy Space Center where the beauty of space and nature can be enjoyed throughout. This urban refuge is located just 6 miles from downtown Titusville where local shops, restaurants, and entertainment can be enjoyed all summer long! Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is seeking individuals / couples with a passion for conservation and habitat management. Candidates may be asked to assist on a variety of Refuge projects including, but not limited to, trail maintenance, carpentry, staffing informational desks, custodial, routine trash pickup, and mowing. Candidates may also be asked to assist Refuge staff in outreach and educational programming on and off-site. As such, individuals and couples must be comfortable with public speaking in front of groups of students and the public. Candidates must be willing to occasionally travel locally, using Refuge vehicles to assist with community events around the greater Titusville area. Concrete RV pads with full hookups, 30/50 AMP electricity, and shared laundry facilities are provided in exchange for working 24 hours/week per person. Due to the nature of the Refuge, no pets are allowed unless kept within the RV. Bottled water is provided due to tap water being unsafe for consumption, although not harmful for RV water lines.
