About This Position

Description:


Come work with us this summer to help manage the woods, wildlife, wetlands, and wilderness of Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge! Share southwest Montana’s beautiful Centennial Valley with wolves, grizzly bears, trumpeter swans, pronghorn, elk, and moose. Only a few hours from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, you can enjoy recreational activities such as paddling, birding, hiking, fishing, and hunting throughout the Greater Yellowstone area.


This summer we are in search of eager assistants to help our biological program with various habitat management projects, from invasive weed control to vegetation monitoring. No prior experience is required, and we can provide training and certification on wilderness first aid, herbicide application, and operation of offroad vehicles.


A personal vehicle is required for transport in and out of the valley for supplies and recreation, while station vehicles will be available for official duties. Shared bunkhouse space is available to volunteers contributing the weekly minimum service hours. We are unable to accommodate pets or non-volunteer family members. Start and end dates are flexible.



Volunteer Opportunity Dates: 5/19-10/1/2025

Required Days: MTWThF

Hours available: 32 hours/week with 8-10 hours per day.

Lodging available: Yes

RV parking space is available, but not hookups; volunteers meeting the hourly requirements will be allowed space in bunkhouse. Residents of bunkhouse will be entered into quarters management system and must meet expectations set forth in Refuge housing management plan.
