The Catch A Rainbow kids fishing derby is a FREE event at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery for kids up to age 15.
The hatchery staff, the Friends' of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc., volunteers, and generous sponsors, work hard to make this amazing day possible.
This is a huge event with typically 800-1,200 registered kids, and sometimes 3,500 people in attendance total. Kids fish Hatchery Creek during time slots for their age group, and are awarded prizes for largest fish as well as door prizes. Everyone enjoys free hotdogs, snow cones, and drinks. There are other activities available while waiting to fish, such as: archery, face painting, visiting Smokey Bear and Scout the Trout, and casting competitions. This has been an annual tradition in Russell County for over 30 years, with participants from across the country in attendance.
