War Horse Waterfowl Production Area possesses the uniqueness of having Ponderosa pines mixed with old downed timber, sporadic junipers, and rich grasslands flowing in between next to a reservoir, all of which combine to give this WPA its grassland-savanna characteristics. Walking through this WPA, one can expect to encounter a plethora of grassland nesting birds and low-perching songbirds in the uplands while shorebirds and waterfowl congregate nearer and in the water.
