Project Description
This project is a continuation of the FY22-24 Sage BIL Funded project of the same title. This project supports work across the sagebrush sagebrush
The western United States’ sagebrush country encompasses over 175 million acres of public and private lands. The sagebrush landscape provides many benefits to our rural economies and communities, and it serves as crucial habitat for a diversity of wildlife, including the iconic greater sage-grouse and over 350 other species.
Learn more about sagebrush core and growth areas in Montana’s Northern Great Plains and Musselshell Plains to enroll private lands into a Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) for greater sage-grouse and declining grassland songbirds and implement habitat restoration and enhancement activities on those properties. Specific activities to reduce 12 identified threats and supporting habitat quality on CCAA properties include enhanced grazing management, restoration of cropland to native perennial grassland, and restoration of wet meadow habitat via mesic process-based restoration. Landowner's enrolled in the CCAA Program are provided assurances that should one of species get listed under the Endangered Species Act, they will be protected from further needs for those species.
