Overview
Cyanea calycina, a member of the Campanulaceae (bellflower) family, is a shrub with woody stems 1 to 3 m (3 to 10 ft) long. Leaves are elliptic to oblanceolate (broadest in the middle tapering to the base) 15 to 60 cm (6 to 24 in) long and 5.5 to 14 cm (2 to 5.5 in) wide with a glabrous surface and pubescent lower surface. Inflorescences are 4- to 16-flowered with oblong to ovate calyx lobes, 4 to 10 mm (0.2 to 0.4 in) long. The corolla is pubescent, pale to dark magenta, rarely pale green. Berries are obovoid (inversely ovoid) to obpyriform (pear-shaped), 16 to 20 mm (0.6 to 0.8 in) long.
