The Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery (NFH) hosted the first Arkansas Fish and Wildlife Service Field Station's "Meet and Greet" meeting with U.S. Congressional Staff. The meeting was attended by Field Representatives and Staff from the offices of House Representative Rick Crawford, Senator John Boozman, House Representative Bruce Westerman, House Representative Steve Womack, and Senator Tom Cotton. The Arkansas Fish and Wildlife Service Offices in attendance included Project Leaders from the Mammoth Spring NFH, Norfork NFH, Greers Ferry NFH, Conway Ecological Services, Central Arkansas National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Complex, Dale Bumpers NWR, and South Arkansas NWR Complex. During the meeting the stations provided updates to the Representatives and answered questions. After the presentation, all attendees were provided a tour of the Mammoth Spring NFH and provided an opportunity to tag over 1,800 Lake Sturgeon.
The meeting and tour were amazing and provided the opportunity for everyone to meet and talk in person. Face to face meetings are always a better way to meet rather than the typical 21st Century virtual meetings. The tour provided an opportunity for the Arkansas FWS offices and Congressional staff to get better acquainted. Jim Stovall once said "You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another, everybody wins," this meeting and the opportunity to work together hopefully strengthened our bonds, helped applaud and encourage one another toward our victories.
