Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery (MSNFH) held its annual Holiday Open House Event, in partnership with the Friends of MSNFH, on December 2nd, 2023, at the Aquatic Conservation Center and Aquarium. The Center was festively decorated by staff and volunteers with lights, fake snow, ornaments, trees, and garland. During the event, Santa stopped by and spoke to visiting children, asking if they have been good this year. The Friends Group, along with several students from the Mammoth Spring School District, volunteered their time to help make cookies, cupcakes, and festive drinks, including hot cider, hot cocoa, and coffee. Local area students and Hatchery staff helped visiting kids and parents assemble holiday ornaments out of natural materials such as pinecones, tree branches, walnuts, acorns, and other outdoor items collected locally.
Every year this event provides a fun winter-time opportunity for the surrounding communities to get together, enjoy each other’s company and learn about the importance of the environment. The event was visited by approximately 200 people, making it another successful Holiday Open House. Bringing people into the Conservation Center with the promise of fun and free cookies is always a great way to introduce them to the Hatchery and see live animals on display, promoting Conservation through Education.
Happy Holidays from all of us at Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery.
